Terms of Use
Effective July 16, 2026
Welcome to Lost Disc Network ("we," "us," "our"), operated by Squeaky Squirrel LLC. These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of lostdisc.net and any related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. What Lost Disc Network Is
Lost Disc Network helps disc golfers reunite with lost discs. Owners register a disc, get a short code, and write the code (plus lostdisc.net) on the disc instead of personal contact information. A finder enters the code to see the owner's return instructions. Owners can also mark a disc permanently lost and drop a pin on a public map so other players can search for it, or transfer ownership of a disc to whoever finds it next.
We are a directory and matching service. We do not take possession of, insure, guarantee the return of, or otherwise handle any physical disc.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use features that involve exchanging messages with other users. Anyone may look up a disc by code without an account, since a finder shouldn't need to sign up just to return a disc.
3. Accounts
Creating an account requires a valid email address (via a magic link) or a Google or Apple account. You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Let us know right away at Help@squeakysquirrel.com if you think your account has been compromised.
4. Your Content
You may submit information and content to the Service, including disc descriptions, photos, location pins, and messages to other users ("Your Content"). You retain ownership of Your Content. By submitting it, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and transmit Your Content as necessary to operate the Service (for example, showing a disc's photo to a finder who enters the correct code).
You're solely responsible for Your Content. Don't submit anything that:
- is illegal, harassing, threatening, or abusive;
- infringes someone else's rights (copyright, privacy, etc.);
- contains someone else's personal information without their consent; or
- is spam, a scam, or otherwise deceptive.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these Terms, though we don't proactively monitor all content.
5. Disc Codes and the Return Process
The short code written on a disc is designed to prove that a finder actually has physical possession of the disc — we treat it as proof of possession throughout the Service (for example, to unlock return instructions or a "message the owner" form). Codes are not secret account credentials; anyone who finds the physical disc can use the code as intended. Don't attempt to guess, scan, or scrape codes you don't already have from a physical disc.
6. Location Information
If you drop a pin marking where a disc was lost, that location — or an approximate, randomized version of it — may be shown publicly on the map to help other players search. If you use the "Use my location" feature, we access your device's precise GPS location only to place that pin; we don't track your location otherwise.
7. Transfers
An owner may voluntarily give up a disc through the Service, after which the next person to enter the code can claim it (once signed in). Once transferred, the previous owner loses access to that disc's information. We are not responsible for verifying that a transfer or claim reflects the actual physical custody of a disc.
8. No Guarantee of Recovery
We provide tools to help reunite finders and owners, but we cannot and do not guarantee that any disc will actually be found, returned, or recovered, or that any user will act on the instructions or messages exchanged through the Service.
9. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third-party providers, including Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Cloudflare (hosting), Esri (map imagery), Google and Apple (optional sign-in), and, if you opt in to SMS notifications, a text-messaging provider such as Twilio. Your use of the Service is also subject to those providers' own terms where applicable. We aren't responsible for outages or issues caused by third-party providers.
10. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON'T WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SQUEAKY SQUIRREL LLC AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR A LOST OR UNRECOVERED DISC, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED $100.
12. Interactions Between Users
The Service facilitates communication between finders and owners, including in-person meetups to return a disc. Any interaction, exchange, or meetup between users is solely between those users. Exercise reasonable caution when meeting someone in person. We are not responsible for the conduct of any user, on or off the Service.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Rhode Island, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Rhode Island, and you consent to that venue.
16. Text Messaging (SMS) Program
If you opt in to SMS notifications in My Bag → Account, you agree to receive text messages from Lost Disc Network at the phone number you provide. Currently, that means a notification when a finder sends you a message about a disc you've reported lost; message frequency varies based on your account activity. Message and data rates may apply.
Reply STOP to any message to opt out at any time, or turn off SMS notifications in My Bag → Account — either way takes effect immediately. Reply HELP to any message, or email Help@squeakysquirrel.com, for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages, and supported carriers may change without notice.
