Privacy Policy

Effective July 16, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Squeaky Squirrel LLC ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and shares information through Lost Disc Network (lostdisc.net, the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address (for magic-link sign-in) or basic profile information from Google or Apple (if you sign in that way).

Disc information. When you register a disc, we collect a private label you choose for it (only visible to you), a public description and optional photo (shown to anyone who enters the disc's code), and a system-generated code.

Location information. If you mark a disc lost and drop a pin, we store that location; an approximate, randomized version may be shown publicly on the hunt map. If you tap "Use my location," we access your device's precise GPS coordinates just long enough to place the pin — we don't store or use your location beyond that.

We also use your general, city-level location (derived from your IP address by our hosting provider, Cloudflare) to center the map near you when you load the site. This is approximate, isn't tied to your account, and isn't stored.

Contact and messages. If you choose to show a phone number for a lost disc, that number is shown to anyone who looks up the code. If a finder sends you a message, we store the message, and their optional callback phone number, photo, and location if they're returning a disc you asked to have hidden.

Technical information. We log IP addresses transiently to prevent abuse (for example, limiting how many times someone can look up disc codes or send messages in a given period). We also log which disc codes are looked up, without linking that to an account, to help us detect and prevent code-scanning abuse.

2. Text Messaging (SMS) Notifications

If you opt in to SMS notifications in My Bag → Account, we collect the phone number you provide and use it to send you text messages related to your account — currently, a notification when a finder sends you a message about a disc you've reported lost. Message frequency varies based on your account activity. Message and data rates may apply.

You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message or turning off SMS notifications in My Bag → Account. Reply HELP to any message, or email Help@squeakysquirrel.com, for help.

We do not share your mobile phone number or SMS opt-in consent with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes. We share your phone number with our SMS delivery provider solely to send you the messages you've opted into. As of this writing we haven't yet turned on SMS delivery, so opting in only stores your number for when that feature is live — no messages are sent yet.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information above to operate the Service: creating and securing your account, showing your disc's return instructions to a finder, displaying the hunt map, delivering messages between finders and owners, and preventing abuse (like scripted attempts to guess disc codes).

We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't sell your personal information.

4. How Information Is Shared

With other users, by design. That's the point of the Service — a finder who enters a valid code sees the return instructions, description, and photo you set for that disc, and any contact info you chose to include. Messages you send are shared with the disc's owner.

With service providers. We use Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Cloudflare (hosting and content delivery), Esri (map imagery), and, if you sign in that way, Google or Apple, to operate the Service. If you opt in to SMS notifications, we also use a messaging provider (such as Twilio) solely to deliver those texts — see Section 2 above. These providers process data on our behalf or as part of loading the page in your browser (for example, your device requests map tiles from Esri directly).

We don't otherwise sell or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

5. Data Retention

We keep your account and disc information for as long as your account exists. Deleting a disc removes its information; deleting your account removes your profile. Messages tied to a disc are kept even after that disc is marked found, so you have a record of who reached out — you can request deletion of this history by contacting us.

6. Your Choices

You can update or delete your disc information, request account deletion, or ask what information we hold about you, by emailing Help@squeakysquirrel.com. You can also just delete a disc or your account directly from the app, and you can opt out of SMS notifications at any time as described in Section 2 above.

7. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies required to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service isn't intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect your information, including row-level database security that restricts access to your own data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above.
